The Gospel.

Good news for humanity.

“But God demonstrates His own love for us: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

The Gospel is the good news that God loves us and died for our sins. When He created us in the beginning, He made everything perfect. However, our ancestors chose to disobey Him and sin. As a consequence, their descendants (which includes you and me) and the world plunged into a fallen state of sin.

Sin and the consequences of sin ravage all of creation. For humanity, the sin nature is passed from generation to generation, which in turn results in us choosing to sin against our holy God and Creator of all things. The consequences of sin plunge all of creation into a fallen state, which results in pain, death, suffering, sickness, and decay.

Not only does sin instill a spirit of rebellion against our holy and righteous God, but it also separates us from Him. Despite this, God loves us and He wants us to be able to approach His throne of grace in our time of need. And because of His great love for us, Jesus chose to empty Himself becoming human like us, and dying for our sins while we were still sinners.

Have you been reconciled with our holy God, creator of the earth and the heavens? During some point in our life, we all have chosen to disobey God many times to fulfill our own desires. As it is written, “All of us have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23). Sin is a big deal. It is very serious. In fact, the ultimate consequence for sinning against a holy God is death. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) This is not just a physical kind of death, but a spiritual one too—where we would be separated from God for all of eternity in a place called hell.

Despite our disobedience, God loves us and wants us to be reconciled to Him. We cannot save ourselves from our sin, so God sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the price to save us. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

We have to choose to receive this free gift. It’s as simple as recognizing that we all have sinned and fall short of God’s expectations, His mark, His glory. However, through His grace He saved us, by sending Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” (Romans 10:9-10). The belief part happens in our heart and the confessing part is a physical demonstration of the belief happening inside.

The physical demonstration should result in repentance. It should result in humility that says, “God, I need You in my life. I can’t do this without You, so please come into my life. Mold and make me what You want me to be. Break me where I need broken.” Being reconciled before God can be something as simple as that prayer.

If you repent, believe, and confess that Christ is Lord, then the work begins. God promises that He will carry on to completion the good work that He began at the time of salvation. He also promises that there is no condemnation. He will never leave us nor forsake us–no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

We don’t just get to spend the rest of our lives here on earth in fellowship and communion with God in an intimate relationship beyond anything we could ever imagine. He will also come back and get us, and we will get to spend all of eternity with Him in heaven.

“Seek the Lord while He may be found;
call upon Him while He is near;
let the wicked forsake his way,
and the unrighteous man his thoughts;
let him return to the Lord,
that He may have compassion on him,
and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”
(Isaiah 55:6-7)
